Sustainability & Environmental Footprint

A Commitment to a More Sustainable Event

Youth Media Alliance (YMA) recognizes the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility within the media industry and professional events. As part of KIMS Canada 2027, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our event, encouraging responsible practices and fostering collective reflection on the sustainability of our industry.

Our approach is based on concrete actions, data collection and continuous improvement.

Measuring Our Environmental Footprint

To better understand the environmental impact of KIMS Canada, we are collecting information through the registration form about delegates’ travel and sustainability-related practices.

This information will help us to:

  • Estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with travel and accommodation.
  • Understand the transportation choices made by participants, including air travel, rail, bus, personal vehicles and carpooling.
  • Assess selected responsible practices related to food, local transportation and waste reduction.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement for future editions of KIMS Canada.

The information collected will be used for planning, environmental measurement and reporting purposes. Where possible, data will be aggregated and anonymized.

Responsible Practices, from Planning to Delivery

KIMS Canada encourages initiatives that help reduce its environmental footprint, including:

  • Responsible travel: Encouraging rail, bus, carpooling, walking and other lower-carbon transportation options whenever possible.
  • Reducing printing: Prioritizing digital tools, electronic communications and online-accessible materials.
  • Sustainable food practices: Encouraging plant-based options and locally sourced products whenever possible.
  • Waste reduction: Minimizing single-use plastics, encouraging the use of reusable water bottles and coffee cups, and supporting effective waste sorting and recycling.
  • Responsible choices: Integrating environmental considerations into event planning and, where possible, the selection of suppliers and partners.

A Shared Responsibility

KIMS Canada's sustainability depends on a collective effort. We invite delegates, partners, suppliers and the broader children's and youth media community to share their ideas and adopt responsible practices.

Through everyone's participation, we aim to make KIMS Canada an event that not only fosters connection, creativity and business opportunities, but also contributes to a more sustainable and responsible children's and youth media industry.
